This is my oldest son. He's a great son. Really! He'll be 22 this fall! Sometimes it's so hard to believe that I have an adult son. I mean, it wasn't that long ago that I was his age, right? Wrong. It seems so long ago, yet other times, like it was just yesterday.
The Good-Looking one is the oldest of five children. I remember right after our middle son was born (as in I was still in the delivery room!), he turned around and asked me
"When will my sister come?"
I explained to him that it would be a while and that mommy would have to get pregnant again before he'd have a sister. His reply?
"Uh uh! You're still fat!"
He hasn't lost his way with honesty, even today. By the time we'd given him two brothers and a sister, he was OK without having any more siblings. Yet, at 12, we had the fun of informing him he'd have yet, one more brother or sister. And then, a day or two later, informing him that the doctor thought perhaps number five was actually numbers five and six. He fell against the wall and I thought he'd pass out! Turns out she was just number five after all, and he was happy about that! She was born a month before his 13th birthday...and he was great! I had complications which prevented me from doing much those first few weeks after she was born, but he really stepped up. We were homeschooling at the time and he got lessons in changing lots of diapers, helping mom up and down and helping with the other younger brothers and sister. And he never complained, although he did ask if we were done having any more children!
He knows how to treat his mom, too. When he was little, he and I had a special A&W that we would go to. One Mother's Day, he took me there...even though there was now one closer to our home, he drove to the next town to take us to our special place.
He shares his dad's passion for playing the guitar.
He's come a long way from here
to here
He's also a great brother and wants to make sure his siblings know him, especially since he's already moved out. He always calls to get details on what we're doing for whatever special event is coming up. He puts his family first.
He'll go to their soccer games
And hold giant snakes for their birthdays!
He's not afraid to have fun with them!
Yup, that's him, the Good-looking one.
Oh, we call him that for good reason. Honestly. His younger siblings all look up to him. He's that perfect older brother, you know the one. Great teeth, great eyes, great hair, cute feet. No cavities, no glasses, curly black hair and well, apparently cute feet. We have an ongoing joke now; He's the Good-Looking One, the middle son is the Talented One, and the youngest son is the Smart One. Ah, yes, we do have fun with that one! And no, 2/3 aren't ugly, 2/3 aren't dumb, and 2/3 aren't un-talented, Thank you very much!
